Every business owner I know carries the same burden: too many decisions.
From who to hire, to which opportunities to chase, to how much time to give away outside the office.
It never ends.
And the weight of constant choices leads to hesitation, second-guessing and decision fatigue.
But what if you had a filter so simple it cut through the noise every single time?
Enter the “Hell Yes vs. Hell No” rule.
If a decision doesn’t make you feel like a Hell Yes — with full confidence and alignment — then it’s leaning toward a Hell No.
And in business, indecision or “lukewarm yes” is often more dangerous than a clear no.
A Real-World Example
One of my clients recently wrestled with a tough situation. An employee, who also happened to be a friend of someone in the company, just didn’t feel like a values fit.
The owner was stuck in limbo: should they keep them, should they let them go, how would this affect the team dynamic?
I asked them a single question: “When it comes to values fit, is this employee a Hell Yes?”
They paused, thought about it, and admitted: “No.”
That moment of clarity made the decision obvious.
It was time to move on.
No guilt, no overthinking, no dragging it out.
Just alignment with their values and confidence in the choice.
Why This Works
- It simplifies complexity. Instead of weighing 10 different factors, you boil it down to the core.
- It saves time and energy. No more circling back on the same decision over and over.
- It aligns with your values. A “Hell Yes” usually means the decision fits your priorities, your culture, and your goals.
Whether it’s about people, growth opportunities or personal commitments outside of work, this filter cuts through the noise.
The Takeaway
The next time you feel paralyzed by a decision, ask yourself: “Is this a Hell Yes?”
If not, it might just be a Hell No.
And saying no can be the most freeing (and profitable!) decision you ever make.
So here’s your challenge: look at the biggest decision on your plate right now.
Don’t overanalyze.
Don’t spreadsheet it to death.
Just ask yourself: “Hell Yes or Hell No?”
The answer may already be clearer than you think.
